Another team was knocked off the ranks of the unbeaten last week, as CAAC Red leader Mason beat CAAC White leader Ionia on the road last Tuesday night 60-44.

That leaves only Olivet and Laingsburg as the area's only undefeated teams in boys basketball.

This week's rankings aren't necessarily a reflection of who is the best team in the area.  I'm not sure either Olivet or Laingsburg could beat Okemos, Waverly, Mason, Ionia, etc.  But that wasn't the point.

So who is the best team right now?  You could argue about Okemos (only a three-point loss to Grand Ledge) or Mason (who's 11-2).  And Ovid-Elsie is 11-1 and playing really well.

You can't say Grand Ledge because Waverly destroyed them in their own gym two weeks ago, 66-33.  And you can't say Waverly because of their four losses this season (even though they might have the most talent).  You also can't say Ionia because they lost at home to a really good Mason squad last week.

I can't decide, so this week, I wanted to reward Olivet and Laingsburg for their excellent seasons so far.  And why is Olivet above Laingsburg?  Because Olivet is 13-0, and Laingsburg is 12-0.  It's that simple.

Some big games this week   On Tuesday, Olivet steps up in class to play Coldwater,  Laingsburg faces 11-1 Ovid-Elsie.  Leslie also plays Jackson Northwest on Tuesday (who beat Mason at the start of the season.  The unbeaten Wolfpack also host Fowler in a key CMAC matchup on Friday.

And Brock Palmbos will recap the week that was in high school basketball this Saturday morning from 10-11am with High School Rewind on The Game 730 AM WVFN!
