Lansing-Area Girls Basketball Top 10 Poll (As of February 27th)
The longest regular season in Michigan high school girls basketball history concluded last Saturday. And we finally have champions in all of the area leagues. They are:
DeWitt & Holt - CAAC Blue; Haslett - CAAC Red; Lansing Catholic - CAAC White; Olivet - GLAC; Dansville - CMAC; Ovid-Elsie - Mid-Michigan Athletic Association; Morrice - shared the Genesee Area Blue with Genesee.
The CAAC Blue was shared because of DeWitt's victory at home over Holt last Tuesday, 48-43. Lansing Catholic won the outright CAAC White title by crushing Portland last Friday night. Olivet clinched the last outright GLAC title by beating Lakewood at home last Saturday. And Morrice beat Genesee last week to share the GAC Blue title.
A couple of notes on this week's poll. Even though DeWitt and Holt split their games this season, DeWitt (2nd) is ranked higher than Holt (3rd) because of their slightly better overall record (20-2 to 18-4). And even though Fowler, Stockbridge, and Lakewood each have slightly better records, 14-7 Portland St. Patrick gets the 10th spot because they defeated CMAC outright champ Dansville last Friday night 39-96.
The girls basketball state tournament begins on Monday night with nine games involving area teams, they are:
East Lansing vs. Waverly, Mason vs. Jackson, Charlotte vs. Eaton Rapids, Eastern vs. Williamston, Fowlerville vs. Pinckney, Saranac vs. Wyoming Potter's House Christian, Leslie vs. Potterville, Bath vs. Carson City-Crystal, and Lansing Christian vs. Morrice.
We will carry a girls basketball district final this Friday night with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45pm. Brock Palmbos and Erik "Doc" Love will have the call at a place to be determined. We are your trusted source for high school sports coverage, The Game 730 AM WVFN!
BTW, this is the final girls basketball poll of the regular season. We will do a final poll after the state finals are played in Mid-March.
Ok, on with the final top 10 poll of the regular season:
