We are now three weeks into the girls basketball season in the state of Michigan.  So now is a good time to take a look at the top area teams so far.  As many schools enter the holiday break this week.

To my surprise, we have only four area teams that are unbeaten at this point.  DeWitt, Haslett, Olivet, and Dansville.  And only four area teams have one loss.  Holt, Lakewood, Laingsburg, and Morrice (who lost to Genesee by two points last Friday).

That speaks to a lot of parity in the Mid-Michigan area.  And that should lead to some very competitive games once we get into the New Year.

And the best part is, most of the top teams all play each other.  Regardless of league affiliation or enrollment size.  Last season, Fowler (a Division 4 school) played Portland (a Division 2 school).  They are so many other great matchups that I can't list them all here.  Although Haslett at Holt on January 3rd and DeWitt at Haslett on January 17th look really juicy.

And the aforementioned Portland plays East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Grand Ledge, Laingsburg, Fowler, and Lansing Catholic (twice).  Now that's scheduling that even Tim Staudt can get behind.

Ok, on with the first girls basketball top 10 poll of the season.  And remember, It is only my opinion, and I could be wrong (as Dennis Miller used to say):

Lansing-Area Girls Basketball Top 10 Poll (As of December 19th)

We will have a special Christmas Eve edition of High School Rewind coming up this Saturday morning from 10a-11a.  It recaps the week that was in boys and girls basketball in the Mid-Michigan area.
