There are eight Lansing-area girls basketball teams still alive after the district phase of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) girls basketball state tournament.

The big surprise is that Haslett, who won the CAAC Red, and finished the regular season at 21-1 isn't one of them.  The lady Vikings were upset by a red-hot Lansing Catholic team in the district finals last Saturday afternoon 54-42 at Eaton Rapids HS.

The best individual performance of the district phase was by Holt senior center Janae Tyler.  All she did last Saturday night was score 33 points, pull down 21 rebounds, and block five shots in the Rams 63-45 victory over Jackson Northwest at Mason HS.

But now there are eight.  And they'll start regional play on Tuesday night.  Here are the matchups involving area teams:

Holt vs. Coldwater - 7:00p

DIVISION 2 @ COMSTOCK PARK HS

Portland vs. Grand Rapids West Catholic - 7:00p

DIVISION 2 @ FOWLERVILLE HS

Lansing Catholic vs. Tecumseh - 5:30p

DIVISION 2 @ THREE RIVERS HS

Olivet vs. Plainwell - 7:00p

DIVISION 3 @ DANSVILLE

Ovid-Elsie vs. Grass Lake - 5:30p

Dansville vs. Springport - 7:00p

DIVISION 4 @ PETERSBURG-SUMMERFIELD HS

Fowler vs. Allen Park Cabrini - 5:30p

All winners on Tuesday will advance to Thursday's regional championship games at the same sites listed.  All regional final winners on Thursday move on to next Tuesday's state quarterfinals.
