Weeks after joining the Lakers to assist in building the team's future, Earvin "Magic" Johnson has been named president of basketball operations of the Los Angles Lakers. Johnson will report directly to  team owner, Jeanie Buss.

The Lakers also relieved Mitch Kupchak of his duties as general manager and Jim Buss was also let go and will no longer be Vice president of basketball operations according to NBA.com.

Kupchak has been the team's general manager since 2000, the longest current stretch running a front office in the NBA.

Buss had been in charge of basketball operations for 12 years alongside Kupchak.

Sitting at 19-38, Los Angeles is quite long shot to make the playoffs which would be the fourth straight year of missing the post season.
