Kirk Cousins Might Be Seeking Trade From Washington Redskins
Former MSU quarterback Kirk Cousins could be looking for a new NFL home in the near future.
Speaking recently to a Washington D.C. TV reporter, Cousins said if the Redskins name embattled quarterback Robert Griffin III as their starter then he'd request a trade.
Cousins later walked back those comments, saying he intends to honor his contract with Washington. The deal expires after next season.
Washington drafted Cousins in the fourth round of the 2012 draft after he led Michigan State to a 28-14 record in three seasons as its starter between 2009 and 2011. He left the Spartans as their all-time leader in passing touchdowns (66), passing yards (9,131), completions (723), passing efficiency (146.1 rating) and total offense (9,004 yards).
But Cousins has struggled in limited time in the NFL. When RGIII went down this season with an injury, he lost four of five starts, eventually being overtaken on the depth chart by third-stringer Colt McCoy. Cousins played in eight games in 2014, finishing with 10 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 1,710 yards and a 61.8 percent completions percentage.
If the Redskins were to trade or release Cousins, there are multiple potential landing spots. Cousins wants a chance to compete for a starting quarterback job, and there could be such competitions this upcoming offseason in Chicago, Cleveland, Buffalo, Houston, New York Jets, Jacksonville, Tampa, and maybe more.
