Justin Verlander Back in the Cy Young Race

According to mlb.com Justin Verlander earned American League pitcher of the month in for his performance in July.

This is Verlander's fourth time winning the award and the first time earning this honor since  September 2012 .

Verlander compiled a 4-0 record with a 1.69 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 42.2 innings pitched during his six starts in July. He finished the period first in strikeouts, tied for first in innings pitched, third in ERA and tied for third in wins. The right-hander allowed only  26 hits, and held opponents to a .171 batting average during his awardwinning month.

In 22 starts this season, he has 11 wins with a 3.54 ERA and155 strike outs .
