The University of Michigan announced on Tuesday morning that head men's basketball coach John Beilein (pictured) underwent successful double bypass heart surgery in Ann Arbor.

Beilein is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days, and should be ready to go for the start of practice in October.

However, he will not join the team on their pre-scheduled trip to Europe (later in August).  Assistants Saddi Washington (former Sexton star), Luke Yaklich, and DeAndre Haynes will lead the team in Beilein's absence.

Michigan is coming off a Big Ten Tournament championship and a National Championship game berth in 2018.  They have a highly touted recruiting class (including East Lansing's Brandon Johns) coming in this year, as well as key returnees Charles Matthews and Zavier Simpson.
