Michigan State University head men's basketball coach Tom Izzo and his wife, Lupe gave over $1 million towards the renovation of Munn Ice Arena, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

A portion of the money will also go towards funding the school's marching band and assist SASS (Student-Athlete Support Services) at MSU.

Renovations to the longtime home of Spartan hockey could begin soon, according to the Lansing State Journal.

Munn Ice Arena, named after former football coach and athletic director Clarence "Biggie" Munn, has hosted MSU home hockey games since the fall of 1974.  The rink has hosted a pair of national title teams during that time (1986 & 2007).

The reconstruction hopes to be completed by the end of 2020.
