New “Red Flags” For 2024 Winter Forecast In Michigan
Brace yourself for a weather whirlwind this upcoming winter season.
With the colder and chiller weather approaching, the Farmer's Almanac shared their winter forecast for this year.
If you did not catch it, there is a red flag in the winter forecast this year.
When Does Winter Start In Michigan In 2024?
In 2024, the first day of winter is the winter solstice on December 21st, 2024. Typically, when the Farmers' Almanac releases its predictions, it is pretty straightforward.
However, this time around, it is not so simple.
Farmer's Almanac Winter Prediction For Michigan
With La Niña expected to develop this season, the Farmers' Almanac is expecting the 2024-2025 winter to be "wet and cold for most locations."
Who will be getting the season's coldest temperatures? You guessed it. US!
"The season's coldest temperatures will be found from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes region."
Thankfully, we have a little bit more time till we get to the coldest part of the coldest season.
So, about that "red flag" I mentioned earlier...
The Farmers' Almanac is "'red flagging' the final week of January over most of the eastern half of the country."
The highlighted timeframe is from January 20th to 23rd and 24th to 27th. This is when they expect the most snow, rain, ice, and sleet.
"The coldest outbreak of the season will come during the final week of January into the beginning of February when frigid Arctic air brings a sharp plunge in temperatures almost nationwide, but especially across the Northern Plains. As this very cold air blows across the Great Lakes, heavy snow showers, and snow squalls will bring intense bursts of snow to the lee (east) of the Lakes."
If you are not a huge fan of geography, Michigan is east of the lakes. So start bracing yourself for an insanely chilly winter.
