The Worst Tourist Trap in Michigan is Revealed. Hint: Not Frankenmuth

Since it's "Up North" season in Michigan, another publication has decided to identify the biggest "tourist traps" in each state. Tourist traps, by definition, sell souvenirs. It's a business that's been created or repurposed to lure travelers in and make money.

For a lot of people Frankenmuth, MI comes to mind at first thought.

To be fair, Bronner's does have all of the attention getting appeal from Gera Road when entering Frankenmuth. Tourists do go there, but it's not a tourist trap. Frankenmuth has plenty to do and its own local community.

Driving toward Alpena, near Thunder Bay is Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox...

That's not a tourist trap either. Pinconning's old Deer Acres Fun Park (now permanently closed) in Bay County...

Now that was a tourist trap. If you were leaving Genesee or Oakland Counties driving Up North with a carload of kids, they had you. My grandparents always stopped to "entertain" us there. (Meaning, get out of the car, stretch your legs... pee again. Get a snack. Then, hopefully, you'd nap until arriving in Oscoda.)

What is Michigan's Biggest Tourist Trap?

According to the publication Cheapism, Michigan's biggest waste of money & time is in St. Ignace. The Mystery Spot.

It's kind of true. The "legend" they've created is what keeps people coming back: A small area where surveying equipment didn't work properly, people felt dizzy, etc. You walk into a lopsided house and take pics.

On the other hand, they have food, mini golf and incredible views when you go ziplining, too. How many places can you see the Mighty Mac like this?

Go have fun and beware you're going to part with very hard-earned money when the "fun trap" captures you.
