Halloween will be here before you know it, and sure—there are thousands of costume options out there. But why not put a Michigan-themed spin on your outfit this year? Here are some fun suggestions.

Michigan Foods That Make Perfect Costumes

Dressing up as a Coney dog is cool, but having two people dressed as a Flint-style and a Detroit-style and playfully “fighting” all night is even more fun. You could do the same by dressing up as a can of Faygo or Vernor’s—or both! Donning a Detroit-style pizza costume screams Michigan, as does going as a bag of Better Made Chips or a box of Jiffy Mix.

Landmarks and Legends Come to Life

Aside from Michigan-based foods and drinks, we’ve got plenty of iconic landmarks, legends, and traditions that would make creative costumes. Try dressing up as the giant Uniroyal Tire on I-94, Meijer’s horse Sandy, Flint’s iconic Weather Ball, or even the arches over downtown’s brick streets. How about the Michigan Dog Man, a Petoskey stone, or a perfect Euchre hand?

Some people have even dressed up as major Michigan freeways, while others have gotten really creative with Zilwaukee or Mackinac Bridge costumes. Mocking the endless road work across the state? A construction barrel or pothole costume would get some laughs too.

Sports and Celebrity Costume Options

If you’d rather go as a Michigan legend, there are plenty of options. From musicians like Bob Seger, Kid Rock, and Stevie Wonder to athletes representing the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings—you can channel your favorite local hero.

Or, for something really bold, try going as an upside-down Amon-Ra St. Brown. Just make sure you’ve got strong arms for all those handstands!
