Injured Michigan Hunter Crawls to Phone After Falling From Tree Stand

A Michigan hunter is recovering after falling approximately 25 feet from his tree stand and then crawling on the ground to reach his cellphone in order to call for help.+

Rescue workers were called to an area known as 'The Dead Swamp Area' in Roscommon County on November 15, the opening day of the firearm deer season.

The 61-year-old man from Almont, Michigan had fallen roughly 25 feet from a tree stand. The man then managed to crawl to his back pack in order to retrieve his cellphone and call for help. The man phoned 911 and his brother who helped lead officers to the victim's location.

The man's brother arrived to help lead troopers from the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post and a deputy from the Roscommon County Sheriff's Department to the scene. Officers then requested assistance from the Coast Guard Air Station in Traverse City,

When rescue workers arrived, they suspected the man had sustained pelvic, back, and chest injuries.

Man Airlifted From the Scene

Because of the difficulty of the terrain and the severity of the man's injuries, rescue workers requested a basket airlift from the scene. Video of the rescue was posted on the US Coast Guard Great Lakes X (formerly Twitter) page.

Authorities did not comment on the man's condition.
