Apple AirTag Leads Michigan Police to Man Who Stole 72 Political Signs
Police in Northern Michigan discovered 72 stolen political signs in a man's home after one fed up homeowner placed an Apple AirTag in one of his yard signs.
Stealing Political Signs is Against the Law
As the 2024 election nears, police are reminding Michigan residents that stealing or defacing a yard sign is a misdemeanor punishable with a maximum penalty of $500 and 90 days in jail.
After having a political yard sign stolen from his yard, a Northern Michigan resident placed an Apple AirTag in a new sign before putting it in the yard. Up North Live says the homeowner also trained a camera on the area where the new sign was installed.

The homeowner reported the sign stolen earlier this week and on Tuesday (10/8), police tracked the sign to a home in Charlevoix and found 72 yard signs, all advocating for former President Trump and JD Vance.

Man's Aunt Claims it Was Her Idea
Tholen tells the TV station that while police were at the residence, the man's aunt arrived at the home.
"She was interviewed by police and stated that she had told the man that she would pay him $10 for each sign he took that belonged to the presidential candidate," Tholen said. "She claimed that this was a joke."
