Update: Al's status has been changed to "pending" on Facebook Marketplace. The owner updated the listing saying:

THIS IS NOT SOLD, BUT I MIGHT HAVE FOUND A WAY TO KEEP IT. AND BRING IT TO WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE NEXT SUMMER, hopefully. (I will relist it, if I have to in August. Hopefully not)

A massive part of Detroit Red Wings history is up for grabs on Facebook Marketplace.

Growing up, I lived for my trips to The Joe Louis Arena to see the Wings play. Joe Louis housed some of my favorite Red Wings to date, like Steve Yzerman, Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, and Darren McCarty.

Hanging above me while making memories at The Joe was Al the Octopus.

And now, Al could be yours to own. He is currently available on none other than Facebook Marketplace, listed for a whopping $30,000 CAD. I've converted that to USD for you: $21,969.

Personally, I don't think you can put a price tag on something as iconic as Al. Plus, the money would be going to someone who really needs it. According to the seller's description, they initially planned on keeping this piece of history forever. However, they battled cancer and could really use the money to start their new life debt-free.

In a report done by Detroit Sports Nation seven years ago, Al the Octopus was sold for just $7,700.

According to the Facebook Marketplace ad, Al is currently being housed in Windsor, ON.

The listing reads:

This is AL THE OCTOPUS from the Joe Louis Arena and the Detroit Red Wings. This is a piece of hockey history, the Red Wings Dynasty. Your chance to own a piece of hockey history. 30,000 OBO This breaks my heart to sell but I know it could be put to good use somewhere at a sports bar or someone's storage garage for cars or other things in Michigan or whoever is a big Detroit Red Wings fan. Every piece is signed by Al Sobotka, the Zamboni driver for years at The Joe.

The seller also included some fun facts about Al the Octopus:

The legs come off to get it through doors. Apparently, they use wood and glue and a little wrap to put it back together every year for the playoffs and you'd never know. This is how they stored it every offseason.
