Lansing’s Getting A Brand New 2,000 Person Capacity Performance Venue
A brand new 2,000 person capacity performance venue is coming to Lansing, Michigan.
The Ovation Center for Music and Arts - presented by MSUFCU, is expected to open in Fall 2026 in the heart of downtown Lansing, according to Founding Director Dom Cochran.

"We've been working on it for a little over 20 years at this point, actually trying to bring this to Lansing," says Cochran. "It feels good to actually be under construction."
Where is Lansing's Ovation Center for Music and Arts Being Built?
"The Ovation", as it's expected to be called for short, is being built on the southwestern corner of S. Washington and Lenawee Streets just north of REO Town.
Those behind the project view it as a future cornerstone for the revitalization of the area.
Cochran says if you've been to The Intersection or GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids or The Fillmore in Detroit, you've got a pretty good idea of the type of venue that is in the works for Lansing. The main hall will hold a little more than 2,000 people for standing room shows; a smaller event space will also be available for more intimate shows with audiences of 150-200 people.
What Kinds of Events Will Happen at The Ovation in Lansing?
"This is like a rock and roll, country, hip hop, comedy venue," says Cochran. "Mostly standing shows. We will have seating options, of course, for more like the comedy nights and things like that. We're also designing it to be super modular - corporate events, weddings, all of that are going to be great there too."
Cochran says plans for the new $30 million project have the support of other Lansing-area venues including the MSU's Wharton Center and Grewal Hall at 224, which will be just a couple blocks away.
Public Support for The Ovation in Lansing
MSUFCU is one of the biggest donors to be announced as a supporting sponsor of The Ovation so far. Other corporate donors are expected to snatch up naming rights for different aspects of the space.
Cochran says public support from Lansing area residents is being welcomed as well. Developers are seeking small donations that will go toward a sizeable LED marquee in front of The Ovation, and a mural on the new Lansing Public Media Center building which is adjacent to the venue. Donors of $25 or more will be forever remembered on the facility's donor wall, and will be featured on the marquee from time to time as well.
More information about the new venue can be found on The Ovation's website, including how to become involved.
