MSU Had the Stones to Make History 31 Years Ago
History was made at Michigan State University on September 9, 1994.
The First Concert Ever at Spartan Stadium
That's when The Rolling Stones played East Lansing as part of their "Voodoo Lounge" tour. According to MSU archives, about 46,000 people were on hand to witness the very first concert ever held at Spartan Stadium.
Rocker Lenny Kravitz opened the show, several years before becoming synonymous with his big hits "Fly Away" and "American Woman".

They then exited the stage, only to return for an encore of "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
How Spartan Stadium Prepared for the Stones
According to Archives @ MSU, "renovations to the stadium were completed just in time for Stones concert and included a new tunnel large enough for trucks to haul in the stage and lighting. When assembled, the stage was 92 feet tall and 220 feet wide, stretching across the entire north end zone."

The Stones show wasn't the biggest concert ever to be held at Spartan Stadium. U2 played before a crowd of about 65,000 there in the summer of 2011 with opening act Florence and the Machine.
