I know, it's easier said than done, especially because mosquitoes seem to absolutely ADORE my blood. But, I am determined to try to enjoy my time outside to the fullest, and that means trying all the tips and tricks to keep from getting bit.

How to Keep From Getting Bitten by Mosquitoes

Sure, we all know that bug spray can help. But, I had no idea that there were so many different products and methods to keeping the bugs at bay until I did some digging. Here's what I learned.

Use EPA-Registered Insect Repellents

These repellents use active ingredients like DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus to deter mosquitoes. Be sure to apply that to exposed skin and clothes.

Wear long, light-colored clothes

Wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks whenever you're outside if the weather allows it. Also, opt for lighter colors which are less attractive to mosquitoes.

Use fans and bubble machines outside

Mosquitoes are weak fliers, so the breeze created by fans will help keep them away. Surprisingly, bubble machines create enough constant motion to help repel them.

Clear standing water

If you have anything outside that collects water (birdbaths, plant saucers, toddler toys), be sure to empty that water regularly. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
