The Best U-Pick Berry Farms in Mid-Michigan

With summer just around the corner and things about to heat up, it's officially berry picking season in Mid-Michigan!

And while I love wandering through a farmers market, there's something even sweeter about going straight to the source: the berry bush.

I've picked my fair share of apples at Phillips Orchard in St. Johns (a fall must-do), but when it comes to berries, especially strawberries, Diederich's Farms in Webberville is my favorite.

Their Earlyglow strawberries are absolutely scrumptious. And they have more than just berries: hello, freshly picked asparagus.

Hot Tip: Little ones are notorious for putting more berries straight into their mouths into their baskets. Hey, no judgement from me, I have a toddler, so I understand the chokehold a strawberry has on a two-year-old. But, still be sure to minimize the direct-from-the-bush snacking.

What to Know Before You Go Berry Picking

• Check to see how the farm takes payments. Some places only take cash.
• Double-check on whether or not you need to b.y.o.b. (bring your own basket). Some places will provide baskets, others will have you bring your own.
• Wear sunscreen! There's no shade.
• Wear appropriate footwear. Don't show up in flip flops.
• Maybe bring baby wipes. This is just a bonus tip, because your fingertips will definitely be red.
