Michigan City Makes the List for One of the “Worst” Places to Find a Job
As we're entering into the new year, this is usually the time that people take stock of what's going on with their lives. If they want to make improvements or changes in some aspect of their life. And a job could be a facet that is in need of a change.
Maybe you're looking for your first job in the career field you want. Or perhaps you're looking to improve your working environment, and your pay, or just looking for a different job or company entirely. There are lots of reasons to be on the job hunt. If you happen to be looking for a job, keep in mind that where you're looking plays a big part in how successful you might be.
Best and Worst Cities for Jobs
To help give you a leg up on your search for a job, WalletHub took a look at over 180 different cities across the states to see which would be the best for jobs.
In their search to find the best (and the worst), they took a look at two major categories; the job market and socio-economics. And within those two major categories, accounted for many different facets.
Here are some of the factors that they looked at for the overall job market;
- job opportunities
- employment growth
- monthly average starting salary
- unemployment rate
And some of the socio-economic factors included;
- median annual income
- housing affordability
- safety
- family-friendliness
After taking a look at all those different aspects of job finding, sadly, there was one Michigan city that ranked severely low on the list...
Worst City in Michigan to Find a Job
...And that city is Detroit.
Out of 182 different cities, Detroit came in at number 174. That's the bottom ten.
With a score of 167 for the job market and 181 for socio-economics, you can see why it made the bottom of the list. However, there was a Michigan city that ranked much higher on the list, and that was Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids scored a 26 overall with a 26 for the job market and a 67 for socio-economics. So, if you're on the hunt for a job in Michigan, perhaps take a look at Grand Rapids?
