100-Year-Old Lansing Business May Close Because of Road Construction

Road construction in Lansing is no joke. In fact, one business is hurting so bad from it, that it may have to close its doors.

At this moment in Lansing, roads are being torn up in just about every direction. Including, along the Michigan Avenue corridor. This construction has resulted in the complete closure of some stretches for a period of time.

Michigan Avenue Businesses Need Help

The roads need it, and this construction has been a long time coming. However, it isn't without its struggles, particularly for the businesses along that stretch of road.

WILX reports that one business that calls Michigan Avenue home may have to close its doors because of the severe decrease in business because of the construction.

Fabiano's Candies, which is currently celebrating its 100th year in business, is facing the prospect of closure if it doesn't get some help.

Owner Steve Blair said that Fabiano's "has survived a lot of things like wars and pandemics and I‘m hoping we’re able to survive a simple construction." It's sad that Fabiano's is facing this prospect.

There is some legislature in the works that would help Fabiano's and other businesses that are really being hit hard because of construction. "State lawmakers are considering a bill that would create the Road Construction Business Loss Reimbursement Program. The program would award impacted storefronts up to $15,000 to offset the revenue lost during construction projects."
