All Michiganders are Suffering From the ‘Corn Sweats’
I find that TikTok can really be a wealth of knowledge and information. And yet again, it hasn't disappointed, because it just taught me about the 'corn sweats'.
Yes, the 'corn sweats'.
Yes, they're a real thing, and no, it's not what happens when you eat a lot of corn (ie. the meat sweats). The 'corn sweats' are however, responsible in part for why it's so stinking humid in the Midwest.
Are the Corn Sweats a Real Thing?
If you live in the Midwest, Michigan included, then you've probably been suffering through some unbearable humidity recently. So much humidity, in fact, that it makes it feel so much warmer than it actually is outside. This is partially thanks for the 'corn sweats'.
Here's what I learned: the corn isn't actually sweating, but it is releasing a lot of water.

I learned this from a TikTok that @annakittykate put together (with the help of reputable sources).
The reason it's called the 'sweats' is because the corn is kinda sorta sweating like a person.
You can see a graph of the 'sweat' like evaporation below.
During this time, a lot of water can evaporate. Like, A LOT A LOT.
Approximately 4,000 gallons a day.
Because the Midwest is covered in these green and golden fields of corn, we're really feeling it.
It's literally one of the reasons it's so stinking humid.
So now that you know what to blame, you can tuck away this cool nugget of information for the perfect moment at bar trivia.
