7 Things to Do in Lansing to Celebrate 517 Day This Weekend
If you thought Michigan's only famous area code was the 313, you'd be wrong. How could you forget about the 517?
This Saturday is May 17th, making it 5-17 on the calendar. So, or course, Lansing is going to do the most to celebrate this special day that falls perfectly in line with the area code: 517.

And, whether it's specifically in recognition of 517 Day or it just happens to be a coincidence, there are a lot of fun things to be apart of this 517 Day.
Here's a look at some of the fun you can get up to this weekend!
Saturday, May 17th will be the final day for Lansing Restaurant Week. This week is dedicated to foodies, because you can go to participating restaurants and enjoy a specialty drink for $5 and a signature dish for $7. This is a great opportunity to try a new place without spending oodles of money. There are over 40 different restaurants involved spanning the greater Lansing area. All I can say is come hungry.
Celebrate 517 Day with the Lansing Lugnuts
The Lugnuts are taking on the A's on the 17th. And in celebration of 517 Day, they've got some fun deals going on. You can get a $5 hotdog/chips combo, a $1 pop, and a $7 dollar ticket (we see what you did there).
Get Tattooed
What better way to celebrate you love of Lansing and/or Michigan with something permanent emblazoned upon your skin? But in all seriousness, two Lansing tattoo shops are holding flash events to benefit local organizations.
You can get tattooed by one of the artists at Devils Day Tattoo in Downtown Lansing during their Lansing 517 Flash Event from 12 to 7 pm, with proceeds going to the Refugee Development Center.
Flash Ladder Tattoos in Old Town Lansing is also holding a flash event, with proceeds going to the Lansing Pride Organization.
The 62nd Annual East Lansing Art Festival
This free event will take place in Downtown East Lansing, including some parts of MSU's Campus. There are vendors for just about everything under the sun; art, music, jewelry, camping needs, food, and more.
There are family-friendly activities taking place in Downtown Lansing from 11 am to 3 pm. Multiple businesses, organizations, and talent come together in Downtown Lansing to enjoy music, art, vendors, and music.
This is a street festival that takes place at the Michigan State Capitol from 5 - 9 pm, and it's completely free. The Best of Lansing will feature "artists and creatives to retail shops and restaurants, the influencers, changemakers, and creators that make the 517 so unique."
This is an annual event where Michigan kids and their families are invited to get a free bike helmet in addition to fun activities. It takes places at the Marshall Street Fire Station from 10 am to 12 pm.
