Every year my wife and I try to get away at least once a summer for a long weekend getaway on the motorcycle and I’m always looking for unique destinations. AirBnB to the rescue!

The Raven Rock Treehouse is beyond unique, in fact it looks like a vertigo inducing experience that will truly test your cardio. This stay is located just 10 miles from the Asheville, North Carolina airport, which makes it about a 10 and half hour ride on the highways and nearly a 13 hour ride taking the backroads.

The Superhosts, Doug & Jen, bill this stay as “Radical off the grid therapy” located in a 40-acre wildlife preserve.

Let’s take a closer look at The Raven Rock Treehouse:

This shot gives you a better idea just how high this treehouse is. That's 50 foot in the air. Pack light.

Here you get a look at the covered deck, firepit and illuminated winding staircase which is still climbs 50 feet into the air.

This looks like an older shot since there isn't a covered deck 50 feet below where you'll be sleeping. Also I'm not sure what filter they are using here but it reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.& Jen via AirBnB

What a view! Look closely here and you can see what looks like two people relaxing on a fall day or one person being mauled by a bear. This photo will also answer the question you've been asking yourself:

Where's the bathroom?

That would be the porta-john at the base of the stairs...and another 50 feet or so to the left. Doug & Jen, the Superhosts of The Raven Rock Treehouse, do have an option for those 'late night' potty breaks:

There is a pee bucket with a toilet seat for night time convenience that guests empty in the porta potty and rinse at the outdoor kitchen.

Get 50 feet in the air late at night and that 'bucket' may look better than it sounds, however remember, someone needs to carry the bucket down the 50 feet of stairs and then rinse it.

This shot answered one of my many questions:

Is there an elevator or rope?

Yes there is! Look at the top left corner of the treehouse and you will see a rope and pulley! I'd still pack light. 50 feet of stairs.

If you didn't have vertigo before, you may now. This gives you a better idea of just how high up the Raven Rock Treehouse is. And are those escape ropes???

You've walked up the stairs and now, as you catch your breath here is one of your first views. That appears to be a garage like door but since there is no electricity it's safe to assume that it's a manual open.

This is may be off the grid but look at that craftmanship! Those sheets don't come with the stay by the way, it's BYOS (bring your own sheets). You also won't find any electricity other than the 500 watt solar generator that Doug & Jen say will charge your phone.

The love seat settles it for me. This is a couples retreat. Just remember that a full retreat is still 50 foot down.

A complimentary crate of wood awaits you below the wood burner once you've climbed 50 feet into the air. An additional crate is available for just $10, but you'll have to carry it up yourself. Pack light, dress warm, use wood sparingly.

Beautiful sunset over a lazy bonfire. An incredible view...but you still have to climb a 50 foot winding staircase after it goes out. Use the porta john before you go up.

Here's a shot that appears to be taken at night by someone who was either running away, towards, or past The Raven Rock Treehouse. Perhaps it was some of the wildlife that live in the area. According to Doug & Jen:

Bears are extremely shy but hungry, please store all food.
If you are an early riser and quiet you may see bobcat, fox, deer, turkey, hawks, falcons, grouse, owls and of course ravens.

Sounds great! Wait, can't bears, bobcats and foxes all climb stairs? That said I would enjoy watching a deer attempt to climb the 50 feet worth of stairs.
