Taylor Swift-Inspired Bills Target Ticket Bots in Michigan
If you've ever been so frustrated when trying to get concert tickets that you've thrown your laptop and screamed, "Look what you made me do!" you'll be happy to know that Michigan lawmakers heard your pleas, and they haven't shaken them off, they're doing something about it, with the "Taylor Swift Bills."

The "Taylor Swift Bills" (yes, they're really called that) just passed in the Michigan House of Representatives, in what could only be considered a bipartisan love story of mutual support, and are now headed to the State Senate.

So, what is the goal of these bills? Lansing is looking to make it hard and more costly for ticket-buying bots to snatch up all the good seats before real folks are able to finish typing in the presale code.
Michigan Swifties Finally Get Their Wildest Dreams
House Bills 4262 and 4263 would give the Michigan Attorney General the power to fine the human behind the ticket-snatching bot up to $5,000—per ticket. That's a price point thieves won't like, but to them I say, "You need to calm down."
Why Michigan Swifties Are Backing the Bills
These bills were inspired by a ticket-buying fiasco that began in 2022, when fans were left with broken hearts, empty carts, and bad blood, while bots cashed in on resale profits. Even though there is already a federal law against this kind of thing, Michigan wants to make its stance all too well-known.
What Happens Next in This Love Story?
If the Senate signs off, hopefully it won't take a fortnight for that to happen (that's two weeks if you're not fluent in Swift), it could make Michigan a safer place for live music fans who want to dance the cruel summer away without paying champagne problem prices.

Let's hope the Senate doesn't push this bill back to December before acting on it. I'm sure Michigan is up for a bill like this; in fact, I'd say we're ready for it. Just fill in that blank space with a yes.
