There are literally millions of trading cards circulating through the United States, all kinds and all genres over the last 100+ years.

Beatles, monster & horror, sci-fi, TV shows, football, basketball, comic book...I could go on and on but there are just too many categories. But the ones that seem to be the most revered – the most popular – the most collected - and the most expensive – are baseball cards.

Hard-nosed collectors pay big buck just to get that one particular card that is missing from their collection. Which brings us to: What was the most expensive Detroit Tiger baseball card? No surprise to Tiger fans...it was a Ty Cobb card. In fact, the top five most expensive Detroit Tiger baseball cards were all Ty Cobbs.

In 2016, a Georgia family found an old paper sack with seven Ty Cobb baseball cards that their great-grandfather had left behind. When the family was ready to sell, word got out, and that was it. Here's the rundown of their top five sales:

5) $372,000 - a 1909 Ty Cobb ‘red portrait’ card, sold 08-22-2021.

4) $408,000 - a 1909 Ty Cobb Portrait with Red Background, sold 02-24-2018.

3) $488,425 - a 1909 Cobb card with a picture of Ty holding a baseball bat over his shoulder: sold in August 2016.

2) $894,250 - a Ty Cobb 'Back' was sold to the highest on 09-04-2020.

1). Finally, the most paid for a baseball card was a 1911 Ty Cobb Tobacco card for $1,100,000.

It wasn't just the players or age that made these cards valuable. The old original ads on the backs of the cards made them even more so. Scroll down a way to see these Ty Cobb cards, and check out even more details at Moneyinc.com.
