Recently, someone asked me if I have ever written about Blood Cemetery in Laingsburg. Well, yes I have, but I figured why not re-visit the legend and see if there's anything I missed?

The urban legend that surrounds Blood Cemetery is one of Mid-Michigan's most famous ghost stories. The cemetery was named after the Blood family, in particular, a Doctor Blood. As to what his first name was, it varies: Daniel, James....does anyone know for certain? There are a number of "Bloods" buried here.....

The well-to-do Blood family built this cemetery on their own land in the 1800s and the last surviving family member was Dr. Blood. Next door to the cemetery was his creepy mansion, which over the years would become known as the “Blood House”.

THE STORY THAT SPARKED THE LEGENDARY HAUNTING:
For some reason or another, old “kindly” Doc Blood grabbed a shotgun and shot his wife, then hacked her body to bits with an axe. Realizing what he had done, and not wanting to suffer punishment, he walked over to the cemetery and hung himself from a tree. To this day, ghost hunters travel to the cemetery to see if they can catch a glimpse of the ghosts of Dr. & Mrs. Blood who are believed to haunt the cemetery.

Years after this murder/suicide, a group of teens took it upon themselves to pay a visit to the cemetery and the old mansion as well. The others dared one particular kid to enter the creepy mansion and he took them up on it by crawling through a window. The kid was gone for about an hour when his so-called 'friends' decided they better see if they could find him. Not wanting to enter the house themselves, they went to the police. A policeman told them “Hey, Dr. Blood's ghost doesn't like trespassers, you know” and went out to the mansion with the kids.

When they got there, the house had been burned to the ground. Hours later, firemen found the charred body of the missing boy, his hands and feet tied, lying next to a shotgun and an axe covered in blood.

Oh, but it doesn't end there.

The next morning, police found a newly-dug grave with the dismembered corpse of Mrs. Blood inside. Dr. Blood seemed to have vanished and was never found.

In the years since, visitors claim to have seen an armless & headless woman in red, who disappears into the fog. Of all the ones who have explored this place, one remark the majority of them say is, "NEVER, EVER GO THERE ALONE"...
