Michigan Destination Named 1 of America’s 15 Best Lake Towns
So, when I stumbled upon Travel + Leisure's list of the 15 best lake towns in America, I clicked, expecting to see most of them in Michigan. But noooooooo! Only one of the GREAT LAKES STATE's lakes made the list. I know...shocking.

Now, about the singular Michigan town that made Travel + Leisure's cut: it's got miles of shoreline, a castle (yes, really), rolling fields of lavender, and lodging options that don't look like your aunt's basement.
Charlevoix, nicely situated between Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix, and Round Lake (there's more than one in the state), is your charming summer daydream brought to life. You've got the incredible Mushroom Houses to tour, and a downtown that feels like it's been peeled out of a Hallmark movie.
Charlevoix in Good Company
As for the rest of the Travel + Leisure list, it's pretty impressive. South Lake Tahoe in California, Bigfork in Montana, and Aurora, New York, all made the list.

Add to that places like Bayview, Idaho; Chelan, Washington; and Clarmont, Florida, and Charlevoix is among some pretty heavy hitters, but let's be real, it holds its own. After all, it is Pure Michigan.
