Abandoned Bar - Adela's Place: Detroit, Michigan

This seemingly forgotten little drinking establishment sits alone at 4442 W. Fort Street in Detroit. The parking lot on the left is overgrown with weeds. The parking lot on the right is bare concrete. The bar itself sticks out like a sore thumb as you drive by.

Adela’s Place, a Mexican-themed watering hole, kicked off in 1997 and for a while did pretty well, making a half a million bucks per year and an employee count that varied between five and nine. Its closing year is up for debate: a Miller Beer sign says “if you were born on this date in August 1988” but other reports say it closed around 2011.

Looking around inside this abandoned bar, we see discarded tables, chairs, washer & dryer, furniture, television set, photo album of past customers, and a helluva mess left by trespassers, looters and vandals. Garbage and ripped papers are strewn all over the place. I mean, EVERY room is a disaster area, as if someone went through, ripping the place apart in an attempt to find money or something valuable. I get the impression they weren’t too successful.

It’s sad that a local business has to go belly-up, and it’s even worse when intruders break in and put the place in even worse condition, making cleanup almost impossible. The former Adela’s Place is currently up for sale for a mere $525,000. Half a million. Interested?
