Michigan Construction Workers Discover Possible Human Bone During Project
Michigan police are investigating a situation that has arisen from a construction project in Traverse City, as workers discovered what appears to be a human bone in the site. Now police are working with forensics to discover what the bone is and if there may be foul play involved.
The Traverse City Police Department put out a press release that details the incident and gives as much of the limited information they have available to the public. They also revealed there are forensics experts from here in Kalamazoo from Western Michigan University assisting in the case:
Initial examination by law enforcement suggests that the bones may be human, but further analysis is required to confirm this and determine the bones origins. The Traverse City Police Department has enlisted the assistance of forensic experts, including forensic anthropologists at Western Michigan University and Michigan State Police to conduct a detailed examination of the bones.
This Could Be A Long Lost Cemetery Plot
There's a woman who said she was researching the history of Oakwood Cemetery while she was a City employee, and she speculates that the bone may not be from a nefarious situation:
I ran across an old notation that said that the first few folks who died in TC were buried along the bay in the early 1850s, before they established Oakwood Cemetery. Perry Hannah’s first home was situated east of Oak Street and west of Union and set well back from the shoreline, in the area that would become Grandview Parkway 100 years later. It’s possible the burial plot was situated west of Perry Hannah’s house since he made virtually all decisions regarding the establishment of the village at that time.
