A Quick Soup Run Leads To A Costly Parking Lesson
It’s always a pain in the butt when you run in somewhere just to grab something really quick and come out to see a ticket on your windshield. That’s exactly what happened to Fox 2 Detroit’s Ryan Ermanni when he was in downtown Detroit to grab a cup of soup from a local restaurant.
When he came back out, he discovered a parking violation on his windshield. Recently, he took to Facebook to thank the city of Detroit for what he called a “$45 love letter“ on his windshield.

He claims he parked his car and ran in for four minutes to get some soup. His stance on the ticket is that he feels there is no greater deterrent to local businesses than handing out parking tickets on the street.
Many people took this opportunity to dog on him for not paying for parking to begin with, alluding to the fact that, because of where he works, he feels more privileged to not have to pay. However, he claims that there was no meter to park, and addressed his real point in the comment section:
For the people that have completely missed the point of the post. I got a ticket. No biggie. I already paid it. BUT as a customer, I probably won’t being going back to the place where I bought the soup. It’s not their fault at all. It’s just my prerogative as a consumer.
He went on to discuss his beliefs that parking tickets are nickel-and-diming people in Detroit:
This isn’t 1995, cities can find other ways to generate income. My basic core belief is that in 2025 when people have options, cities are not doing local businesses any favors by driving customers away. I’ll do something else. If you disagree, that’s great. I’m not mad at ya.
Do you think he should’ve gotten a ticket, and that there should be clearer indications as to where you can park on the street? Or do you feel like he’s using the excuse of the business to hide the fact that he feels that, because of his job, he shouldn’t have been ticketed?
