Meet The Grue Jay A New Bird Born From Climate Change
Climate change is a naturally occurring thing that the planet has gone through many times in the billions of years that it’s been around, and this current form of climate change that’s been happening in our lifetime is changing a lot of things, including animals.
In fact, Michigan may be next to get a new bird that has recently been created in nature. Vice recently reported on a new species that has reformed after millions of years of separation.

Because the migratory patterns of both the Bluejay and the Green Jay, which were two separate species, have synced back up and reproduce together to make what is being called a Grue Jay.
As Vice explains, the Blue Jays and the Green Jay actually come from the same species:
Michigan Faces A Health Threat From Aggressive Tiger Mosquitoes
Around 7 million years ago, green jays and blue jays went their separate evolutionary ways. One opted for the humid, tropical climates of Central America, the other chose the crisp, temperate forests of the Eastern U.S. They kept their distance, promising that never the two shall meet, let alone get close enough to mate. Climate change messed all that up.
Michigan is full of Blue Jays and although there are no green Jays to be found in Michigan, it’s possible that these new birds could migrate to Michigan.
We will have to wait and see what its new migration patterns are, considering it’s a brand new bird, and the studying of it has only just begun. It would be cool to have one of these find its way to Michigan.
