Warning! Michigan Will Watch You Drive in Construction Zones!

This has been talked about before -- the use of speed cameras in construction zones in several states. The cameras check your speed, and if you are going too fast it's recorded and you get a ticket.

Guess what? It looks as if they are coming to Michigan.

There is so much work being done to improve our highways in Michigan, some of the worst in the country. But drivers don't seem to pay attention to the speed limits going through these construction zones and simple cruise right through. That's a huge danger to the workers, not to mention other drivers.

So, if Governor Whitmer signs the bills on her desk, passed by the Michigan House and Senate, speed cameras could be installed in construction zones.

You won't even see a cop pulling you over and issuing you a ticket because it will just show up in the mail. Surprise!

The Detroit News reported:

"Drivers would have to be going at least 10 miles per hour over the speed limit in a work zone while workers were present to get a citation, according to the legislation.

The bills would change current state policy, which requires ticketed traffic violations to be witnessed by a law enforcement officer or determined through a crash investigation.

A first infraction would result in a written warning, the second a $150 ticket and the third a $300 ticket if the violations occurred within a three-year period."

There are 17 other states that enforce the generation of automatic speeding tickets, sister station CARS 108 says.

The Detroit News reports that Michigan recorded more than 8,000 construction zone crashes in 2023. These crashes resulted in nearly 2,000 injures and 24 fatalities according to the Michigan State Police's Office of Highway Safety Planning.
