This Michigan Pizza Has No Cheese (And People Love It)

If you ask most Michiganders what makes a pizza, they’ll probably say “it’s all about the cheese.” But one St. Joseph restaurant is putting that theory to the test, and TikTok is eating it up (literally.)

Silver Beach Pizza (a favorite in the area) is gaining attention for one of the more unique pies you’ll find in Michigan: a pizza with no cheese at all.

TikTok food reviewers @LetsSmashhh, who travel around Kalamazoo and West Michigan trying local spots and giving their opinions. In a recent post, they stopped in to Silver Beach Pizza after someone in their comments recommended it, to gave it a taste test.

The pizza in question is called “The Davids.” Instead of gooey mozzarella, this pie doubles down on flavor. It starts with a bold base of Frank’s RedHot Sauce and Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, then piles on pepperoni, potatoes, diced ham, bacon, and chicken.

No cheese? You bet. No meat? Definitely not.

The duo also sampled breadsticks and other menu items in their video, but “The Davids” stood out for being one of those dishes that challenge the definition of pizza itself. You can see the entire thing for yourself (And give them a follow while you're at it!)

I mean without cheese, is it a pizza? Or is it basically an open-faced calzone? Or is it both? That’s up for debate. What isn’t up for debate: it looks delicious. And I agree, I absolutely need to try this next time I'm in the area.

Whether you’re a pizza purist or you’re ready to try something outside the (pizza) box, Silver Beach’s no-cheese wonder seems worth the road trip. (Thanks for the tip, @LetsSmashhh)
