Many people in Grand Rapids were taken by surprise on Tuesday night when an unexpected fireworks display lit up the sky.

Many people who couldn't see the massive fireworks display took to Facebook and Reddit asking if anyone knew what the heck was going on.

As one person on Reddit pointed out the fireworks were part of the 2024 SpartanNash Food Solutions Expo’s After Glow event, celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Our Family brand products at DeVos Place.

However, the company had not notified nearby residents about the display, leading to widespread confusion and concern.

In response to the outcry, SpartanNash issued an apology through Adrienne Chance, the company's vice president of communications.

“We recognize that we should have provided advance notice to nearby residents, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience or concern the fireworks caused."

To make amends, SpartanNash is offering a 10% discount to Grand Rapids residents for online purchases at their local stores, which include Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods, and Ada Fresh Market.

Customers can avail of this discount by entering the promo code “FIREWORKS” at checkout on their preferred store's website.
