It seems that Michigan workers might be catching up on their sleep while on the clock. (No judgment here.)

According to a report by MattressNextDay, Michigan ranks 19th in the U.S. for the worst quality of sleep, meaning many residents are struggling to rest. We're probably trying to catch some Zzz's at the quiet of our desk because we reported the reason being high levels of noise pollution, mental health concerns, and stress- it’s no wonder employees might be tempted to sneak in a nap during work hours.

In fact, the craziest finding of this study was the fact that 35% of Michigan workers admitted that they have taken a nap during work hours, 29% of those during a break, and the other 5% just during work in general. We're pretty proud of the fact we don't mind a quick reset.

The report also noted that Michigan's crime rate is 461 per 100,000 people, which could contribute to residents feeling uneasy and stressed, further disrupting their sleep patterns. After all if you're worried about something breaking in, you're probably not resting easily. They also say that our low average temperature could be keeping people up since they aren't warm enough to rest well during our long Michigan winters.

On the bright side, Michigan does have access to green spaces, scoring 66.08, which can help alleviate stress. However, with a total sleep score of only 39.58 (out of 70), it seems like workers in Michigan are constantly battling against sleep deprivation.

So, if you ever wonder why you’re seeing a few of your coworkers sneaking in a quick nap at their desk or in their car, it might just be their way of catching up on those elusive Z's. (While it might not be encouraged, those mid-day naps could be helping them make up for the rest they’re not getting at night!)
