MSU Starts Process To Fire Head Football Coach Mel Tucker
Michigan State University has initiated the process to fire Mel Tucker for cause.
MSU has accused Tucker of misconduct with a rape survivor. Athletic Director Alan Haller informed Tucker that he was being fired for cause without compensation.
Why Did MSU Notify Tucker That They Plan To Fire Him?
Tucker's contract states that he can be fired for cause if he "engages in any conduct which constitutes moral turpitude or which, in the university's reasonable judgment, brings him into public disrepute, or which constitutes a material violation of any of the terms of this agreement".
The notification process is required as part of his existing contract. The notice provides Tucker with seven calendar days to respond and present reasons to Athletic Director Alan Haller and MSU Interim President Teresa K. Woodruff as to why he should not be terminated for cause.
Will The Title IX Investigation Into Mel Tucker Continue?
Michigan State University says they plan to continue with the formal hearing set for October 5-6, 2023. They also plan to look into the source of a leak that led to Brenda Tracy's identity being revealed as part of an investigation into her allegations that suspended football coach Mel Tucker sexually harassed her.
