Amon-Ra St. Brown ‘The Sun God’ Is Staying In Detroit
Detroit Lions fans got some great news just a day before the NFL Draft kicks off.
The Detroit Lions have locked up one of their rising stars, signing wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to a lucrative contract extension.
According to EPSN, the new deal will pay St. Brown between $26-28 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.
The new deal is a major increase from his current rookie contract, which has him earning just $3.366 million in 2024, the final year of his initial four-year deal.
St. Brown has quickly emerged as a top target for quarterback Jared Goff and a key part of the Lions' offense.
In his first three NFL seasons, he has steadily improved his production, culminating in a 2023 campaign where he recorded 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning first-team All-Pro honors.
The Lions' front office has made it clear that retaining their own talented draft picks is a priority, with general manager Brad Holmes emphasizing the importance of "draft-and-develop" over splashing out in free agency.
Locking up St. Brown long-term aligns with this philosophy and ensures the team keeps one of its most valuable offensive weapons.
At just 24 years old, the former fourth-round pick has already established himself as one of the league's top wide receivers, and the Lions are betting that he will only get better.
This extension is a major move for the Lions as they look to build on their recent success of making it to the NFC Championship game.
With St. Brown secured, the team can now turn its attention to potentially locking up other key young players, such as offensive lineman Penei Sewell and defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who are also eligible for extensions this offseason.
