Heading to the U.P.? Here’s Where to Grab Great Pizza

If you have a trip planned to get away into the nature of the Upper Peninsula, but still want to enjoy a great slice of pizza, Yoopers have shared their favorite spots.

My best friend and his wife have lived in the U.P. for over 30 years, and the one thing they miss about being in the Lower Peninsula is having a pizza delivered to their home.

Land is Vast and Towns are Smaller in the U.P.

When you cross the Mackinac Bridge, entering the Upper Peninsula, you enter a vast amount of national forestland with a very low population. Sure, there are a lot of people in Escanaba, Iron Mountain, and Marquette, but the rest are small towns with few residents.

There are many places to visit, camp, hike, swim, ski, ATV, hunt, fish, and more. Sometimes figuring out where to get a good pizza in the U.P. when you don't live there can be a little tough.

The U.P.'s Hidden Pizza Gems You'll Love

Recently, on the Upper Peninsula Reddit page, Yoopers shared some of their favorite places to get a pizza, so if you're visiting and craving good 'za,' these local picks should help.

My best friend lives in Iron River, so I will have to verify with him if Riverside makes some great pizza or not.

I enjoy a good thin crust, but I don't want it to be chewy. Others might love that style, but at the same time, the Ambassador in Houghton keeps coming up.

Now there is a Yooper who knows their way around getting a good pizza in the U.P.

My next visit to the U.P. will consist of locating some of these ideas for pizza.

I have never been to Manistique, and it looks like Flatiron Brewing may be a good reason to visit.
