What is Rail Biking?

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words, but rail biking features a vehicle that is peddled by 4 individuals on railroad tracks that are no longer active with trains. It is a form of low-impact exercise that gets people out into nature to enjoy the beautiful terrain.

Rail bikes were originally used by rail workers as a way to get around and do maintenance but they have also been used for combat. Military cyclists first used them in wartime in 1895 for scouting and delivering messages.

The rail bikes of today are much more comfortable and easier to use with 2 to 4 people doing the pedaling.  The maximum safe speed is around 15 MPH.

Michigan Has Rail Biking in Traverse City

Traverse City got the first rail bike business in the state of Michigan in 2023 and it was a huge success. People from all over the state and other states that are going crazy locking in those reservations.
