Muskegon’s Boatel Would Offer Rooms On The Water
It’s neither a hotel nor a motel, but a historic boat that is docked in Muskegon, Michigan, that could be transformed into a boatel.
A new tourist attraction could soon come to Muskegon if the S.S. Milwaukee Clipper is restored and given a permanent docking location.
What is a Boatel?
A boatel, also known as a botel, is one of two things: it can be a hotel with a dock space that caters to boating enthusiasts, or it can be a boat that functions as a hotel. Essentially, it combines the amenities of a hotel with the convenience of boat docking.
Often, when ships get retired, they are docked and turned into casinos, restaurants, and hotels. This offers both locals and visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy the finer things in life by the water, accompanied by incredible views.

Boatel Plans Make Waves In Muskegon
According to Fox 17, the historic Milwaukee Clipper is currently docked in Muskegon and was long known as the "Queen of the Great Lakes." Built in 1904, the 361-foot ship features 48 rooms and is being restored over the next three years.
The Milwaukee Clipper Preservation Association Director of Operations, Brock Johnson, says the vision for the boatel is to have three bars, two restaurants, and a movie theater as part of the hotel experience.

The goal of transforming the Milwaukee Clipper into a boatel is to give locals and out-of-state visitors a unique experience that will make them want to return year after year.
If all goes as planned, in three years, visitors will be able to enjoy a weekend visit on the Milwaukee Clipper.
