Dubbed as downtown GR's first authentic Vietnamese eatery, Monsoon Vietnamese Cuisine first opened in June 2022. In 2023, it was named one of the best new restaurants in Grand Rapids by Grand Rapids Magazine and MLive.
The restaurant at 55 Monroe Center NW had formerly been Art Caribbean Fusion Cuisine.
Co-owner Phong Nguyen is also the restaurant's chef. He and three other entrepreneurs form Vietnam teamed up to create Vietbrother Restaurant, LLC, and the casual fine dining concept for Monsoon.
The menu at Monsoon includes appetizers like spring rolls, wings, grilled pork skewers, braised pork belly, and grilled short ribs.
For entrees you'll find coconut curry, grilled pork tomahawk, lemongrass stir fry, dry aged roasted duck, Wagyu beef, fried whole snapper, and more. Monsoon has specials like the Banh MI burger and octopus tacos.

There's also desserts and a large selection of cocktails.
According to Crain's Grand Rapids, Monsoon is up for sale as Nguyen has plans to "turn a new page in his career." He has a new job as executive chef for Le Colonial, a chain of French Vietnamese restaurants in Chicago.
Monsoon is being sold turnkey, with all equipment included.
The restaurant will remain open as Nguyen seeks a buyer.
