Gun Stolen in 1969 Shows Up 55 Years Later in Sparta

Have you ever lost or had something stolen and it turned up many years later? A gun was found on the road in Sparta that had been swiped 55 years ago.

I have found lots of things on the road like a ladder which I still have and I have picked up my share of refundable bottles and cans but one thing I never found was a gun. Someone did find one in Sparta but it wasn't on the side of the road or off in the ditch it was in a turn lane.

Someone spotted the gun lying in the turn lane and did the right thing by dropping it off at the Sparta Police Department. That was a smart thing to do because if the person had kept it they could have later been caught with a stolen gun and who knows what activities this gun may have been involved in over the years.

According to Fox 17, Sparta Police Department Sergeant Davide Price said, "It was stolen from someone who was from the Sparta area." The original owner of the gun has been deceased since 1981.

The Sparta police are sending the gun to the Michigan State Police so they can do some testing to find out if there is any additional history from the weapon. A lot can happen with a gun in 55 years.

I wonder if a person just dropped the gun in the road or fell out of a vehicle that may have opened their door for a moment before turning.
