Scam after scam after scam is what our lives have come to. It's hard to live every day when we are looking over our shoulders all the time worried about being scammed out of our money or identities. Scams come in many different forms including door to door scams, phishing emails, spam calls, and even dangerous texts.

As you can imagine, the scammers have adjusted their method again and are finding new ways to take advantage of people. Michigan is one of many states in the country that doesn't have toll roll states, meaning using the highways to travel in, out, and around the state is free and they rely on state residents' taxes to pay for road maintenance.

Toll road states take the funds they make from charging toll fares to those traveling in their state to maintain the conditions of their roads. This also means that anyone who neglects to pay tolls will receive a notice through text, phone call, email, or physical mail to pay the balance and remain safe from legal action.

Toll Road Fee Text Scam Affecting Michigan Residents

Since Michigan is not one of those states, you should never have to worry about paying toll fees to avoid being in trouble with the law. All of this is being said because scammers have started to send Michigan residents texts about their overdue toll fees leading to a loss in their license.

The text includes a fraudulent link that looks like it may be coming from the State of Michigan, but it is in fact not. Bradley Wieferich, the state’s transportation director, says that the text isn't coming from MDOT or another State of Michigan agency and are a scam.

As always, if you receive one of these texts you should refrain from clicking on any links or providing any personal information. You should also report the text to local authorities and to apple/android for scam.

Below are ways that you can stop, block, and report spam and scam texts.
