The Lions were on their way toward a season opening win before giving up 18 points in the fourth quarter.

Every Lions fan in the world knew that the game was far from over at the start of the fourth. Despite the Cardinals looking terrible for the majority of the game, we all knew.

Nobody dared say it out loud, but we all had an angry Lions fan hiding in the back of our heads, waiting for something bad. Detroit then picked up a big first down that pretty much iced the game, until the refs blew their whistles. Apparently a Lions coach called timeout just before the snap, wiping away the first down.

That's when we all knew what was about to happen.

I was watching the game with my kids, and as it went into overtime I started to think, maybe there is a chance we can pull it out. As it became clear that we were not going to win, my daughter said, "Isn't a tie better than losing?"

I thought for a minute, and conceded that I didn't know. I mean, on paper I guess a tie is better, but after watching that whole game, it just felt like we lost twice.

I know that no Lions fan went into the season with delusions of a championship or anything, I mean most of us would be happy with a winning record. I just don't know how to feel about starting off with a tie. The sarcastic side wants to point out that we can't be 0-16 again, so that's a good thing.

So the question remains, is a tie better than a loss?
