Summer cruises are back and Manitou Island Transit is ready to take you to another world. They are the ferry service for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore’s Manitou islands.

You can climb aboard and enjoy priceless views of scenic Good Harbor Bay where you will experience the stunning views of the Sleeping Bear waterfront.

This ferry company has spent the most part of the last 3 decades delivering awesome views and experiencing a new side of the dunes. The ferry has been a family operation since 1917.

Each 1.5-hour cruise departs from Leland harbor at 6:30 p.m. aboard the Mishe-Mokwa, passing landmarks that include Pyramid Point and the North Manitou Shoal Light. Because the cruises run through dinner hour, guests are encouraged to bring a picnic aboard -- Megan Munoz whose family runs the ferry suggests checking out iconic Leland eateries like the Village Cheese Shanty and Carlson’s Fishery -- or to take advantage of the onboard bar’s snacks and drinks.

The cost of getting to experiencing Sleeping Bear Dunes won’t break the bank either, it’s only $25 for an adult and $15 for kids under 12. They suggest advance reservations.

You can take advantage of this offering through the third week of August. They plan to be open Labor Day weekend as well. This service is open to the public.
