Indy 500 Winner Charged With DUI In Avon, Indiana
Retired Indy car driver Al Unser Jr busted for speeding and driving under the influence just outside of Indianapolis.
A member of racing royalty with 34 wins which include first place finishes in 1990 and 1994 with the Indy Car Series, is in hot water. Unser was pulled over for going 59 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. When the police pulled him over there was a strong smell of alcohol according to CBS4indy.com,
Unser initially told the officer he had not had anything to drink that night. Court documents show Unser rolled into an embankment after losing his balance and falling down.
He again said he’d not had anything to drink and refused to take a field sobriety test. He was then arrested.
He refused a chemical test as well, so Avon police got a warrant to take a blood draw, which was done at Hendricks Regional Hospital.
To add fuel to the fire, this isn't Unser's first time or second. He was arrested for DUI in 2007 and 2011. He clearly struggles with alcoholism and wish him the best. However, how does he still have a drivers license?
