Home runs by Jay Bruce and Roberto Perez helped the Cleveland Indians defeat the Detroit Tigers 5-3 at Progressive Field on Wednesday afternoon and set a new American League record with their 21st consecutive victory.

They are now tied with the 1935 Chicago Cubs with the 21 straight wins.  The all-time record belongs to the 1916 New York Giants, who went 26 straight games without a loss.

Mike Clevinger pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the victory for the Tribe, whose magic number to clinch the American League Central is down to 4.

Alex Presley and Nick Castellanos each had two hits for the Tigers.
