The big race isn't until May but over the next few months the speedway in Indianapolis is going to see improvements.  There will also be some changes to the annual race.

According to the story from NBC Sports,  Roger Penske took control of the speedway and the NTT Indy Car series last month.

It was announced that the 500 will feature a few changes including a higher winning purse and multiple qualifying attempts return  for the last row shootout.

NBC will expand qualifying coverage during qualifying weekend and there will be new sponsors for the speedway and series.

The speedway will see improvements for 2020 such as new video boards, a media wall and a new 5G wi-fi network.   Bathrooms around the track will be renovated, along with more picnic tables and racing flags installed around the speedway.

The improvements will help enhance the experience at the 110 year old speedway and are ongoing.  Everything should be ready for the start of the 500 activities beginning in May.

The Indianapolis 500 will take place Memorial Day Weekend on Sunday, May 24th.  NASCAR returns to the speedway for the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard Powered By Florida Georgia Line on July 5th.
