Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez will play his last game in a major league uniform on Saturday night when the Tigers host the Kansas City Royals.

He announced his retirement before Friday night's contest, and said he wanted to finish his career in front of the fans at Comerica Park.  He will be with the team for the final seven games of the season, but won't play.

VMart, as he is commonly called, started his career with the Cleveland Indians in 2002 as a catcher.  But he moved to designated hitter during his time with Detroit.  He was a five-time All-Star, and accumulated over 2,100 hits in his career.

Martinez is hitting .249 with nine home runs and 54 RBI in the 2018 season.
